Robert Troy Mims, 89

Robert Troy Mims, 89 passed away unexpectedly on April 24, 2024, in Las Cruces, NM. He was born on March 19, 1935, in Las Cruces to Corrie (Watson) Mims and Marion Mims.

Robert graduated from Las Cruces High School.  He enlisted in the Army in January 1955, serving time in Germany during the Korean War. After returning home Robert married and raised six children. Robert supported his family through retail sales and driving a truck. Most of his life was spent behind the wheel of a semi-truck trailer hauling goods across the country or locally. When not on the road, he farmed the land that he grew up on and put his green thumb to work in his yard. He enjoyed planting trees, bushes, and flowers neutering them as they grew, always comparing his plants to others in the neighborhood. Robert spent his lasts days on the family farm watching the trees and flowers blossom.

Robert is survived by his sister Ann Neff, children Stephanie Sizemore (Rick), Charlene Mims, Russell Mims, Steve Mims (Valerie), Brenda Taylor (Bryan), and Kathy Armstrong, grandchildren Caleb, Tiffany, Breanna, Trent, and Katelynn, and many nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in Death by his father Marion, mother Corrie, wife Mary Ellen, brothers Bruce and Marion, sister Alta, Brother-in-Laws Warren and Bob, and his grandson Justin.

A memorial service will be held at Getz Funeral Home, 1410 E. Bowman Ave, Las Cruces, NM on May 18, 2024, at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you support your favorite veterans’ group or the charity of your choice.
