City schedules water Nov. 14 water outage on multiple streets

Posted

A water outage and a partial street closure have been scheduled by the City of Las Cruces as part of the Water Main Rehabilitation Alley North of Picacho Project.

North Mesilla Street between west Picacho Avenue and Newcomb Street will be closed to traffic Monday, Nov. 13-Friday, Dec. 15.

Drivers are urged to follow detour signs. Speeding fines will be doubled in the construction zone and motorists should obey all posted signs.

RoadRUNNER Transit routes will not be affected.

For more information, call 575-528-3689.

As part of the same project, a water outage is scheduled 6-10 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, on the following city streets:

  • West Picacho Avenue: Between Second Street and Alameda Boulevard.
  • Newcomb Street: Between north Mesilla Street and north Melendres Street.
  • North Mesilla Street: Between west Picacho Avenue and Parker Road.
  • Pueblo Street: Between Newcomb Street and Parker Road.
  • Melendres Street: Between Picacho Avenue and Newcomb Street.

Adjacent areas also may be affected by the outage. If water on your street is scheduled to be turned off, a door hanger notice will be posted a minimum of 24 hours in advance.

Once service is restored, residents may notice discolored water due to iron, manganese, and calcium deposits. Although the water is safe to drink, the city recommends waiting until the water becomes clear before washing laundry.

The discoloration should disappear within 24 hours. If it does not, all cold-water faucets in the residence or business should be flushed for five minutes.

If the discoloration remains, call Las Cruces Utilities Dispatch at 575-526-0500 for assistance.
