The Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office announced it will conduct sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols through the month of March. Its stated aim is to help reduce crashes, injuries and deaths related to drinking while intoxicated. “Saturation patrols” refer to deployments of patrol officers in higher numbers for a period of time.
When stopped at a checkpoint, drivers may be asked their name and to present their driver’s license, registration and proof of insurance. Deputies conducting the stops will watch for other violations as well as driving while intoxicated.
The location or locations of the checkpoints are undisclosed, but will be within Doña Ana County between the hours of noon and 2 a.m., according to a news release.
