Pedestrian Beacons to Be Activated on Walnut Street and Capitan Avenue

Posted

Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB) have been installed on Walnut Street for the crosswalk at Capitan Avenue. On Friday, May 24, 2024, the beacons will be uncovered and activated for use by pedestrians crossing Walnut Street at this location. The RRFBs consist of two, rectangular-shaped yellow light-emitting diode (LED) light sources that will flash with an alternating high frequency when activated by push button to enhance pedestrian conspicuity and improve driver awareness at the uncontrolled, marked crosswalk.

Motorists shall yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk.

RoadRUNNER Transit routes will not be affected. The RRFB is in Council District 3.

For more information, contact the Public Works Department, Traffic Management section at 575/541-2505. The TTY number is 575/541-2182.
