The Las Cruces Police Department (LCPD) and the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office (DASO) will continue conducting sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols throughout the month of September in an effort to reduce the number of crashes, injuries and deaths related to driving while intoxicated (DWI), the City of Las Cruces and Doña Ana County said in separate news releases.
DASO checkpoints will be in undisclosed locations and areas within the county between the hours of 12 p.m. and 2 a.m., the county said. Deputies will look for all types of violations, with an emphasis on intoxicated drivers.
“Sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols are intended to reduce and eliminate the number of motorists who drive while intoxicated,” the city said. LCPD “officers will also be on the lookout for other traffic safety violations such as drivers using cell phones, and those who fail to properly utilize seatbelts and child safety seats.”
